The Arizona Diamondbacks signed reliever Rubby De La Rosa to a two-year, minor-league deal on Tuesday. The team announced he will be assigned to the Double-A Jackson Generals.

De La Rosa appeared in nine games for the D-backs in 2017 before he was shut down in August to undergo his second Tommy John surgery. Arizona released him on Sept. 1.

He previously underwent Tommy John surgery in 2011 when he was with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Arizona acquired De La Rosa from the Boston Red Sox in 2014 as part of a package for pitcher Wade Miley. De La Rosa would go on to start 32 games for the D-backs in 2015 and 10 more in 2016 before the he was moved into the bullpen full-time heading into this past season.

In his nine 2017 appearances, De La Rosa allowed four earned runs, four walks and two home runs with 12 strikeouts in 7.2 frames.
