The planned celebrity boxing match between popular New York rapper DMX and George Zimmerman, the Florida man found not guilty in the death of teenager Travyon Martin, has been called off.
John Feldman, the owner of Celebrity Boxing, announced on Twitter that widespread outrage from the public after announcing the event, including more than 100,000 signatures on a Change.org petition and more than 300,000 likes on the Facebook page Cancel George Zimmerman’s ‘Celebrity’ Boxing Match, led to the cancellation of the highly publicized bout.

In a statement, a spokesman for DMX released the following statement:
“Damon Feldman has announced that the George Zimmerman fight is cancelled via his Twitter. As previously stated, DMX never agreed to the fight and we thank you for all of the support from DMX’s fans. This situation will not affect any of DMX’s upcoming concerts in America or around the world.”
The fight was first set for March 1 before being pushed back to March 15.
