Mark Cuban’s bad timing

Mark Cuban is a bright guy. He is extremely intelligent and creative and I respect many of his views but his brilliance blinds him from time-to-time. I believe his comments on Donald Sterling prove this truth.
“I think there’s a constitution for a reason, right,” Cuban said recently, “because this is a very slippery slope.”
“What Donald said was wrong. It was abhorrent. There’s no place for racism in the NBA, any business I’m associated with, and I don’t want to be associated with people who have that position.”
“But at the same time, that’s a decision I make. I think you’ve got to be very, very careful when you start making blanket statements about what people say and think, as opposed to what they do. It’s a very, very slippery slope.”
“Again, there’s no excuse for his positions. There’s no excuse for what he said. There’s no excuse for anybody to support racism. There’s no place for it in our league, but there’s a very, very, very slippery slope.”
My first thought was Mark Cuban may be the most self-serving man on the face of the planet. I listen to that statement and I hear Mark Cuban covering his own butt on the things that he says and does.
This is not the time or the place for anything but a swift and severe rejection of Donald Sterling and his views and should not involve cautioning people of a slippery slope, especially when you’re the one manufacturing the slime.
Even though I know a court of law may not allow the NBA to force Sterling to comply with their wishes and sell the team, Mark Cuban took this opportunity to caution people on trying to force an NBA owner to sell rather than state the obvious: that Donald Sterling has got to go.
Brilliance is often blinding, especially when you have an agenda.
