The Phoenix Suns are already short on point guards, and they were left with only one in the second half of their game against the San Antonio Spurs Wednesday night after an injury to Tyler Ulis.

Ulis exited with 7:10 remaining in the second quarter and was later ruled out for the rest of the game.

The Suns had recently been using a new starting lineup featuring Devin Booker at point guard and Josh Jackson at shooting guard, but with Booker missing his second straight game due to a left hip pointer, Ulis was back in the starting lineup.

His exit meant the Suns only had Josh Gray at point guard. Gray was signed on a 10-day contract from the NAZ Suns on Feb. 2. When Gray subbed out of the game in the late third quarter, interim head coach Jay Triano ran with a backcourt of Jackson and Davon Reed.

Ulis and Gray make up the point guard rotation, as Isaiah Canaan fractured his left ankle on Jan. 31.

After an impressive rookie season for the second-round pick out of Kentucky, Ulis has regressed in his second year. Prior to Wednesday’s game, he was averaging 7.0 points, 1.6 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game on 37.8 percent shooting from the field.
