D-backs introduce Portillo’s, Gonzo’s Grill, Dutch Bros at Chase Field

Mar 21, 2018, 6:01 PM

PHOENIX, Ariz. — The Arizona Dimondbacks introduced Wednesday the new food items available for the 2018 season at Chase Field, some of which will be featured at new concession vendors including Portillo’s, Dutch Bros and Gonzo’s Grill.

There will also be new food items available at Taste of Chase, Big Dawgs and other food stands that had already been at Chase Field prior to this year.

“Our partner Levy knows we want to stand out each year when it comes to food, and really have something that the rest of baseball or sports would follow and copy,” Diamondbacks president and CEO Derrick Hall said. “So I think we’ve been really pioneering when it comes to food items and they’ve been big hits. It’s been four years now that we’ve come up with those, we like to call them the ‘wow’ items.”

Some of the items that will be featured at the already-existing Chase Field eateries include:

Asada dog: This 18-inch Schreiner’s hot dog is covered in queso blanco, 24-hour-marinated carne asada, pico de gallo and house guacamole. It weighs in at a whopping 35 ounces and is intended for a group of people, said Chef Stephen Tilder. Served at Big Dawgs

“This is the ‘wow’ item, this is our big item,” he said. “It’s not meant for one person, it’s great to take back to the seats for a family, realistically four, five people. This is a head-turner.”

Steak and Ale Tots: A cheese sauce made with Kilt Lifter beer from Four Peaks Brewery is on top of Philly rib-eye, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms and chive sour cream. Tilder called it a “16-ounce bowl of wonderfulness” that’s one of his favorite items. Served at Taste of Chase

Curd & Q Burger: This burger starts with coleslaw on the bottom, then works its way up to a third-pound of beef, four ounces of smoked barbecue pulled pork, a house barbecue sauce and fried white cheddar cheese curds. Served at Burger Burger

Fried Chicken Bahn Mi: “Bahn mi — French-Vietnamese sandwich, really hot, been trendy for the past couple of years, you see it on a lot of food trucks,” Tilder said.

The sandwich is on a potato roll with a fried chicken filet, roasted garlic and cilantro aioli, pickled diakon raddishes and carrots, and cilantro.

Additionally, the D-backs are adding the following new vendors in the ballpark:

Portillo’s

This Chicago eatery has a few locations outside of the Midwest, including in Florida, California and Tempe, Ariz. Tilder highlighted the Portillo’s traditional Chicago dog that has peppers, pickles, tomatoes, diced onions, Chicago relish and celery salt on a poppyseed bun; as well as the Italian beef sandwich that includes shaved Italian beef and sweet peppers on a toasted roll.

Gonzo’s Grill

Located behind left field where Diamondbacks legend Luis Gonzalez once played, Gonzo’s Grill is a special partnership between the team, Gonzo and Tyson Foods.

“We’ve been trying to convince Gonzo for a while that he should have his name on one of our concession stands and he wanted the perfect concept,” Hall said. “And so Tyson came along with their products, their chicken products. And this guy’s a big fan of chicken prepared different ways.”

A portion of the proceeds from Gonzo’s Grill will go to Gonzo’s Hometown Heroes, an organization that benefits “police officers, firefighters and first responders across Arizona.” Gonzalez said he was excited to be a part of the partnership.

Some of the items at the grill include:

Chicken Fries: Fried chicken with a maple sugar breading and a pancake dipping syrup on the side.

Crispy Chicken Double: Two chicken breasts on a toasted bun with cheese, lettuce, tomato and barbecue aioli.

Chicken BLT Wrap: A spinach wrap with lettuce, tomato, cheese, bacon and fresh-cooked Tyson chicken.

Chicken tenders and popcorn chicken: Chicken that can be ordered with or without one of three sauces: Honeycomb mustard sauce, mango habanero sauce, garlic parmesan.

Garlic Parmesean Fries

Dutch Bros

A Dutch Bros coffee establishment will be inside Chase Field this year, serving hot and iced drinks including the cold brew mocha, iced Rebels and the classic iced Kicker.
