Suns coach Alvin Gentry: Only we can fix ourselves

The Phoenix Suns have struggled the entire season, but the majority of their woes has come away from home.

The Suns have lost their last ten road games, and hold a 2-15 record away from US Airways Center.

Wednesday night doesn’t get any easier for Alvin Gentry and his team, as the Suns travel to Boston to face an emotional Celtics team on a three-game winning streak.

The coach joined Arizona Sports 620’s Burns & Gambo show Wednesday afternoon, and explained his team has the ability to put it together, but only they have the power to turn it around.

“The only people that can play their way out of this thing is us,” Gentry emphasized. “And we’ve got to do it collectively as a group.”

The Suns’ 108-99 loss in Milwaukee to the Bucks Tuesday night showed signs of progress on offense, but the team still failed to put together a full 48 minutes.

“We did play well,” Gentry said. “We’ve had great looks and just hadn’t been able to get them in the basket. We just have to find a way to maintain.”

Proficiency seems to be a killer for the Suns’ momentum at the end of games, and Gentry expressed an understanding of how that has hurt his team’s chances.

“We just have to be able to execute at the end of the game,” he said. “We have not been able to come up with big shots, or big baskets, or big rebounds. That has been the biggest Achilles heel for us.”
