The Phoenix Suns offered the Philadelphia 76ers a second-round pick for point guard T.J. McConnell and that offer was declined, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Keith Pompey.

The 26-year-old McConnell has proven to be one of the league’s more reliable backup point guards after playing under Sean Miller at the University of Arizona. In 22.4 minutes per game last year, McConnell averaged 6.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists a game.

In the Eastern Conference semifinals against the Boston Celtics, Sixers head coach Brett Brown elected to start McConnell later in the series to give the team some more ball-handling and another pick-and-roll threat. McConnell started two games in the playoffs and played 15.5 minutes a night over 10 games.

McConnell makes $1.6 million this season before becoming an unrestricted free agent next summer.

The Suns’ point guard situation has been a storyline for the team since they traded Brandon Knight to the Houston Rockets in late August. The Suns’ final roster has Isaiah Canaan at the position along with rookies De’Anthony Melton and Elie Okobo. The team has also agreed to a deal with combo guard Jamal Crawford, according to 98.7 FM’s John Gambadoro.
