The Phoenix Suns on Wednesday waived point guard Isaiah Canaan.
Canaan started 15 of the Suns’ 20 games this season but recently was moved to the bench in favor of rookie forward Mikal Bridges.
Shooting guard Devin Booker slid into the point guard role with Canaan on the bench.
The Suns re-signed Canaan in August after he spent part of the 2017-18 season with the team before suffering a gruesome ankle injury in January.
Canaan, 27, has averaged 7.5 points per game and 3.3 assists per game this season.
With Canaan gone, the Suns have just two true point guards on their roster, rookies DeAnthony Melton and Elie Okobo.
The team will have two open roster spots following the move. Phoenix didn’t fill Tyson Chandler’s spot after he was bought out last month.
