Suns forward Markieff Morris named Western Conference Player of the Week

Nov 11, 2013, 11:21 PM

Following four of the most impressive performances of his young career, Phoenix Suns third-year forward Markieff Morris was named the Western Conference’s Player of the Week for games played between Nov. 4 and Nov. 10.

Morris, who is currently coming of the Suns’ bench, averaged 22.75 points and 8.0 rebounds per game during the team’s last four games, including a career-high 28 points in a 114-103 win over the Denver Nuggets Friday night.

The former No. 13 overall pick out of Kansas joined some elite company on Sunday night, becoming just the third player in NBA history since Sept. 1989 — joining Dwight Howard and Charles Barkley — to score 20 points or more in three straight outings in which he also connected on 75 percent of his shots from the field.

The Suns forward leads the NBA in field goal percentage (69.8) heading into play Monday.

Morris is the first Sun to win the award since Amar’e Stoudemire was given the conference’s top weekly honor back in Nov. 2008.
