The Pulse: Most appreciate Phoenix Suns owner Sarver’s comments during Spurs game

Robert Sarver hasn’t always been a popular man during his decade as owner of the Phoenix Suns.

But it appears most fans have Sarver’s back after he grabbed a mic and apologized on behalf of the San Antonio Spurs during Thursday’s preseason matchup.

With many of the Spurs’ top players and head coach Gregg Popovich failing to make the trip to Phoenix for the game, Sarver addressed the U.S. Airways Center crowd, offering refunds for those disappointed at the visiting team’s showing.

On Saturday, Popovich responded to Sarver’s comments with disdain, noting he was surprised the owner didn’t deliver his message “in a chicken suit.”

In last weekend’s Sanderson Ford Poll Question of the Day, we asked: What did you think of Robert Sarver’s announcement during the Suns-Spurs preseason game?

Three-quarters of the 562 respondents approved of Sarver’s move — 46 percent said his address was a “nice gesture for fans,” while another 28 percent said the “Spurs deserved to be called out” for having such a high number of absentees.

Not everyone was pleased, however. Fifteen percent of voters said Sarver’s comments were “unnecessary,” and another 10 percent said the move was “embarrassing for the team and fans.”
