Suns suffer bad loss to Spurs at home: By the Numbers

If the Suns’ high from a previous two-game winning streak was a shiny, inflated balloon, the Spurs were, well, spurs.

San Antonio punctured Phoenix with a 101-74 rout at home — and it could’ve been worse.

It was worse at the half, in fact, as the Suns were held to just 24 points — a franchise low in any half.

That was due to 19 percent shooting by Phoenix to open the game as opposed to the Spurs’ 48 percent from the field, and those numbers didn’t change much throughout.

Kawhi Leonard had 22 points and 10 rebounds and three Spurs players contributed 12 apiece while just three total Suns players hit double-digit scoring in the effort.

Phoenix would finish the game shooting just 30 percent from the field — an actual increase due largely in part to Marcus Morris’ 15 fourth-quarter points.

It was a game the Suns couldn’t afford to lose, as they struggle to obtain the eighth seed in the West and a playoff berth. What did it look like, by the numbers?

25/84

Phoenix hit just 25 of their 84 attempted shots throughout.

In the entire first quarter, Phoenix scored just 13 points off of four field goals in 21 attempts.

7:51

The Suns went 7:51 without making a field goal in the first half.

The drought ended with a flush by Markieff Morris.

2:26

With just over two minutes to play in the half, Morris attempted to rally his team. He took over for head coach Jeff Hornacek in the huddle with what appeared to be a rallying cry.

Newcomer Brandon Knight made it through a single half before exiting the game with a hip pointer.

15

Marcus Morris scored 15 of his 19 total points in the fourth quarter, helping Phoenix avoid a franchise-low for a game (68 points, 1981).

56/42

The Suns were beat on the boards 56-42.

1.5

Phoenix is now 1.5 games behind Oklahoma City and the eighth seed in the Western conference. The Suns sit at No. 10, a full game behind No. 9 New Orleans.
