Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jason Demers will miss the next several games with a lower body injury, 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station’s John Gambadoro has learned.

The team announced late Tuesday morning the defenseman was week to week.

Demers was believed to sustain the injury by colliding with a player in the Coyotes’ game at the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday.

The 31-year-old defenseman plays on the Coyotes’ top defensive pairing with Oliver Ekman-Larsson and is part of a blue line that is already missing Niklas Hjalmarsson due to a lower-body injury.

In 30 games this season, the defenseman has five assists for five total points, averaging just over 21 minutes on the ice per game.

The Coyotes have had Ilya Lyubushkin and Aaron Ness to fill in, and defenseman Robbie Russo was recalled on Monday.

Demers also missed a significant chunk of last season with a lower-body injury. He played only 35 games in 2018-19 and is currently in his third season with the Coyotes.
