Suns’ Amar’e Stoudemire’s dunk ranks in top-20 dunks of the decade

A highlight-reel jam from Amar’e Stoudemire in March of 2010 got the fan-favorite Phoenix Sun some recognition in a countdown of the best dunks from the decade.

The NBA’s twitter account tweeted a thread of videos honoring the best slam dunks from 2010 through 2019 and went with Stoudemire’s dunk on Golden State Warriors power forward Anthony Tolliver as the first tweet in the thread, making it No. 20 on the list.

“Hello! Amar’e Stoudmire elevates and detonates a devastating dunk here in Oakland,” television broadcaster Tom Leander said. “Maybe the top dunk of his career. That was savage!”

Take a look:

The dunk put the Suns within one point of the Warriors with 2:33 to go in the fourth quarter. The Suns won that game, 133-131, and Stoudemire finished with 37 points, eight rebounds and two assists on March 22, 2010.

The Suns went to the Western Conference Finals that year, the only time in the decade they reached the playoffs.

That year was Stoudemire’s last with the Suns. In his eight seasons with the Phoenix, Stoudemire averaged 21.4 points per game with 8.9 rebounds. He shot 54.4% from the field in that time. He went on to play for the New York Knicks for five seasons, and finished his NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks and Miami Heat.
