After T.J. Warren scores 53, Twitter remembers Suns’ cash considerations

The Phoenix Suns traded T.J. Warren to the Indiana Pacers last summer for cap relief and to clear a logjam at wing.

Warren was clearly a better player than a salary cap dump, particularly one in which the Suns had to give up the No. 32 pick along with him, but Phoenix’s rationale was that they needed money for more important offseason moves, particularly signing a point guard and re-signing Kelly Oubre.

Translation: cap considerations.

Warren put on a show for the league Saturday, scoring 53 points in an Indiana Pacers win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

He made 20 of his 29 shots. He went 9-for-12 from 3, showing range he lacked in the desert that was one of the reasons he fell behind Oubre and Mikal Bridges on the priority list.

Twitter, which enjoys making fun of teams like the Suns whenever the opportunity is given, remembered about this trade and realized that “cash considerations” has not scored a single point in the bubble.

Warren’s teammate Myles Turner was among the people celebrating the performance.

Apparently, a Wikipedia editor got on and fixed up a new nickname for the forward.

Suns fans can’t be too upset, for when they look at Phoenix’s lineup they see Rubio in the starting lineup and not a rookie point guard. They see Oubre under team control for another year. They see a team that still has quite a few wing options.

But no matter the context, the Suns traded a high-level scorer for cash.

That’s something the league won’t forget until Phoenix makes them.
