Phoenix Suns point guard Ty Jerome is part of a group of NBA players who are participating in a fantasy football league that is open to fans and will benefit clean water programs in East Africa.

The Water Bowl Fantasy Football Draft will take place on Zoom on Sept. 1 at 4 p.m. Arizona time. Space is very limited and registration costs start at $150. You can register here.

The Hawks’ Kevin Huerter, Pacers’ Malcolm Brogdon, the Nets’ Joe Harris and Justin Anderson, the Bucks’ George Hill and Donte DiVincenzo and the Grizzlies’ Anthony Tolliver are the other players involved.

The league is a 13-week head-to-head format and fans can donate to get certain benefits, ranging from sitting in on the draft to co-managing a team with one of the players. Fans can help select first-round picks, and there are other prizes involved too: The grand-prize winner gets a trip to next year’s All-Star Game in Indianapolis.

The event benefits a good cause: providing water in East Africa as part of Hoops4Humanity, founded by Brogdon. Hoops4Humanity includes 17 athletes between the NBA and WNBA and is especially necessary in Africa given the COVID-19 pandemic spreading globally.

“Hoops4Humanity has a goal to link clean water to school settings which lack it and make further investments in education and infrastructure, working with the local community to create a level of sustainability so that progress continues,” a statement read.

“The guys are thrilled to be part of the first ever Water Bowl Fantasy Football league,” Brogdon said in a statement. “There is tremendous basketball talent in our group and we’re excited to connect with fans using some different skills. You might not be able to take us on the court, but we hope you’ll give your best shot in the Water Bowl. Clean water is needed now more than ever.  That makes it a win all around.”

Jerome, 23, is coming off his rookie season in the NBA after being selected 24th overall in last year’s NBA Draft.
