The Phoenix Suns have waived guard Elie Okobo, according to Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro.
Okobo’s contract in his third season was non-guaranteed. In free agency, the Suns added veteran guards E’Twaun Moore and Langston Galloway, and also re-signed guard Jevon Carter. Phoenix also picked up the team option on guard Cameron Payne.
The 23-year-old Okobo was selected by the Suns 31st overall in the second round of the 2018 NBA Draft. The young French guard had recently picked up the point guard position overseas, which led to a rough transition of playing it at the next level.
Through the Suns’ inability to establish a capable guard rotation, Okobo was given plenty of chances in two seasons to prove he was worthy of minutes, but he couldn’t find any consistency in his play.
Last year, Okobo averaged 4.0 points, 1.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game, playing 13.1 minutes a night over 55 games.
