With quarterback Kyler Murray’s status up in the air, the Arizona Cardinals worked out signal caller Cole McDonald on Tuesday, per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

The team also worked out former Arizona Wildcats quarterback and Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Khalil Tate, according to Darren Urban.

However, it is unclear exactly what position Tate was worked out as.

McDonald was selected in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. He was released on Aug. 19 to make room for veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian and later tried out for the Carolina Panthers on Aug. 23.

As a junior at Hawaii, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound signal caller recorded 4,135 passing yards (No. 3 in the nation) and scored 33 touchdowns through the air (eighth in the nation). McDonald also produced with his legs, rushing for 383 yards and seven scores on 101 attempts.

In three seasons at Hawaii, McDonald accumulated 8,032 yards, 70 touchdowns and 24 interceptions on 61.4% passing (326-of-511).

All but one of his touchdowns came in his final two seasons as the school’s starter. He chipped in an additional 880 yards and 12 touchdowns on 251 carries.

If he’s signed, McDonald could figure to be the second- or third-string quarterback on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams if Murray is unable to suit up.
