The Arizona Cardinals signed defensive tackle Xavier Williams to a one-year contract on Monday.

Additionally, Arizona released linebacker Shareef Miller to make room on the 90-man roster for Williams.

It’s a return to the desert for Williams, who entered the league with the Cardinals as an undrafted free agent out of Northern Iowa in 2015.

The defensive lineman played three seasons in Arizona (2015-17), recording 28 tackles, 0.5 sacks, a forced fumble and two QB hits over 23 games (two starts).

Williams, 29, then took his talents to the Kansas City Chiefs for two seasons, playing in all 16 games in 2018.

The 6-foot-2, 302-pounder would notch one more season with the Chiefs, sealing a Super Bowl ring in the process, before joining the New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals in 2020.

Williams joins a tackle room that is in flux with veteran leader Corey Peters a free agent this offseason and coming off a season-ending injury.

That leaves Williams to compete for reps with the likes of Rashard Lawrence and Leki Fotu, two players head coach Kliff Kingsbury highlighted when talking about the makeup of the position after a voluntary OTAs session last Wednesday.

“We’re always looking to add talent, we know what Corey’s about,” Kingsbury told reporters. “He was tremendous for us on and off the field, one of the great leaders in our locker room, so we’ll see how that plays out and we’re excited about some of the young talent we have there as well.

“I felt Rashard [Lawrence] did a nice job last year stepping in. Leki [Fotu] really came along way, so we feel we have some good pieces.”

The Cardinals also have tackles David Parry and Cameron Murray on the roster.
