Arizona Coyotes defenseman Connor Murphy will take part in the Unified Relay Run for Special Olympics on July 5, the Coyotes announced Tuesday.

Murphy’s part of the relay will take place in Glendale and have him carry the Special Olympics torch from 95th Avenue in Sportsman’s Park, which is next to University of Phoenix Stadium, towards Gila River Arena.

His section of the relay is expected to be at 7 a.m.

The 6-foot-4, 212-pound defenseman played 73 games for Arizona last season, tallying seven points with four goals and three assists. The Coyotes chose Murphy, 22, 20th overall in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

The Unified Relay takes the torch across the world before reaching Los Angeles, Calif., where the World Games will take place later this summer.
