The Arizona Cardinals designated defensive lineman Rashard Lawrence to return from the injured reserve list on Monday.
The lineman can begin practicing with the team immediately. The Cardinals can activate him at any time over the next 21 days.
Lawrence hasn’t played since suffering a calf injury in Week 6’s win over the Cleveland Browns. He, along with defensive lineman J.J. Watt, were both placed on injured reserve on Nov. 6.
In his place has been veteran Corey Peters. The lineman has made 10 tackles and recovered a fumble in eight games.
In six games this season, Lawrence has recorded four tackles.
Getting another body in Lawrence back along the defensive line is a welcomed sign for Arizona.
While the Cardinals have one of the top defenses in the NFL, the team’s run defense has taken a hit since losing both Watt and Lawrence.
Entering play Monday, the unit is surrendering the 17th-most points per game to opposing rushers with 113.8 yards per game. It’s allowing the third-most yards per carry in the league with 4.7.
The Cardinals take on the Bears in Chicago on Sunday at 11 a.m. Tune to 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station for all the action.
