Head coach Monty Williams’ Phoenix Suns did not have the greatest October.

They went 2-3 to begin the 2021-22 season, but November treated them bit better. The Suns were a perfect 16-0 over the past month, and that carried the weight for Williams to win the October/November Western Conference Coach of the Month honor, the NBA announced Thursday.

The league also named Bulls coach Billy Donovan as the Eastern Conference Coach of the Month for leading Chicago to a 14-8 mark to start the season.

Meanwhile, Williams’ team is 18-3 and tied with the Golden State Warriors for the league’s best record heading into Phoenix’s Thursday hosting of the Detroit Pistons.

The Suns come off their 17th win in a row, a victory over the Warriors on Tuesday that tied a franchise mark.

All that helped Williams win the coach of the month honor for the third time in his career. He won the award in January 2011 as coach of the New Orleans Hornets and again in March, as the Suns pushed into the No. 2 seed to end the regular season en route to an NBA Finals appearance.

Williams is only the fourth Suns head coach to win the award more than once, joining Cotton Fitzsimmons, Mike D’Antoni and Alvin Gentry.

The Suns host the Pistons for a 7 p.m. tip-off on Thursday, and the game will air on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
