Arizona Coyotes recall forward Matias Maccelli from Tucson Roadrunners

The Arizona Coyotes recalled forward Matias Maccelli from the Tucson Roadrunners, the team announced Tuesday.

The 21-year-old ranks tied for fifth in the AHL in assists and fourth in points among all rookies. He was named AHL Rookie of the Month for November after tallying six goals and eight assists over eight games for Tucson.

Maccelli has recorded seven goals and 14 assists with a +2 rating in 21 games for the Roadrunners this season.

He spent the two previous seasons playing in his home country of Finland’s top professional league. At 19 years old, Maccelli won Rookie of the Year in the Finnish Liiga, playing in 43 games and recording 13 goals with 17 assists.

In his two years in Finland, he totaled 28 goals and 41 assists for 69 points in 94 games.

The Coyotes selected the prospect 98th overall in the fourth round of the 2019 draft.

After four postponed games, Arizona will travel to San Jose on Tuesday to take on the Sharks at 8:30 p.m. on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station.
