The Arizona Cardinals are interested in bringing back wide receiver A.J. Green, per Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro.
Gambadoro adds that Green has had interest from a few teams outside of the Cardinals.
Pegged as the outside option in head coach Kliff Kingsbury’s offense last season, Green recorded 54 catches on 92 targets for 848 yards and three touchdowns while pacing the team in yards per reception with 15.7. He tied now-Jacksonville Jaguars WR Christian Kirk in plays of at least 20 yards with 16.
Green worked well with WR DeAndre Hopkins in the fold, recording 24 receptions (35 targets) for 406 yards and three touchdowns over the first seven games of the season.
That same success wasn’t found in the latter half of the season as injuries to Hopkins and miscues, most notably Green’s miscommunication with quarterback Kyler Murray at the end of the Green Bay Packers game in Week 8, reared their ugly heads.
With Hopkins missing seven of the final nine games of the year due to injury, Green was the top option to take over for the No. 1 wideout slot.
Instead, Green regressed to the tune of 25 catches (49 targets), 392 yards and no scores over the final eight games of the regular season.
If Green were to return to the Cardinals for his 11th NFL season, he would re-join a wide receivers room that currently includes Hopkins, Rondale Moore, Antoine Wesley and Greg Dortch. Andy Isabella is also on the roster, but has been given permission to seek a trade.
