Arizona Coyotes forward Clayton Keller left the ice on a stretcher Wednesday after falling awkwardly into the boards.

In the third period against the San Jose Sharks, Keller was bringing a puck down the left side of the ice into the Sharks’ zone.

As Keller got closer to the net, he lost control of the puck. While he tried to corral it, Keller slipped before colliding with the boards.

Play was immediately stopped and Keller was attended to by the Coyotes’ medical team. Keller was holding his right leg shortly after he went down. The stretcher was then brought out for Keller and he left the ice on it while giving a thumbs up.

Coyotes head coach Andre Tourigny said after the game that Keller was getting transported to a hospital and would have further examinations done there.

Keller was the Coyotes’ All-Star this season. The 23-year-old forward leads the team in both goals (28) and assists (35).

Arizona beat the Sharks 5-2.
