One potential owner drops out of Phoenix Coyotes race

And then there were two.

Just hours after news emerged that there were three groups interested in purchasing the Phoenix Coyotes (Matthew Hulsizer, Jerry Reinsdorf and a mystery group), one of those interested parties has taken their name out of consideration.

Hulsizer has decided to end his pursuit of the Coyotes according to the Phoenix Business Journal.

Chicago investment executive Matthew Hulsizer has pulled his bid and no longer wants to buy the Phoenix Coyotes.

Just because Hulsizer has severed ties with the City of Glendale and the Coyotes it doesn’t mean that he doesn’t still have a desire to buying a team. In fact, according to the site, he’s still quite interested in running an NHL franchise. Apparently he just had grown weary of what it was taking to obtain the Valley’s hockey team and didn’t want to go through another few months of negotiations.

It’s hard to blame him. Earlier this year it seemed as if it was a done deal and that he’d take over the franchise. That was before the Goldwater Institute’s involvement and the city reaching back out to Reinsdorf, who had previously expressed interest in purchasing the team.

After over two years of wandering the desert without an owner Hulsizer had seemed like the savior the franchise had been searching for. Instead he’s become yet another footnote in what seems like an everlasting ownership saga.
