Maybe Markieff Morris isn’t as bad a guy as we thought.
On Thursday, Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s John Gambadoro reported that Morris will request a trade to Phoenix Suns management.
The Suns starting power forward is reportedly not happy with the team’s decision to trade his twin brother Marcus to the Detroit Pistons over the summer to free up cap space in an attempt to land LaMarcus Aldridge.
Since the deal, Marcus has openly ripped the Suns to the media and on Twitter, even going as far as saying that his brother won’t be back with the team.
Suns guard Archie Goodwin went on Sirius XM NBA Radio on Monday and talked about what Markieff Morris means to him and the team.
“I can’t too much speak on that situation (trade request), but I can say the last couple years that Markieff is a great guy,” Goodwin said. “One of my favorite guys to be around. He’s a really positive guy to me and for everybody else, always a team-first guy.
“I love Markieff and Marcus. Hopefully he stays with us. I don’t know what will happen with that situation which is why I can’t speak on it, but I enjoy being around them and wish him the best whether he is with us or with another team, same with Marcus.”
Suns fans were not pleased with the Morris twins at the end of the regular season after they routinely caused disturbances in the locker room, such as when Markieff refused to talk to reporters after a win against the Cleveland Cavaliers and when both twins called out fans after a blowout loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
Throw in the fact that they are both charged with felony aggravated assault, and it’s no surprise they are not thought highly of around the city.
Despite the negativity that surrounds Markieff off the court, maybe there is more to the Suns power forward, such as his willingness to be a mentor to the 20-year-old Goodwin.
