Sep 17, 2022, 5:35 PM | Updated: 5:37 pm

Appalachian State pulled out a miracle 32-28 win in a rivalry game over Troy on a tipped Hail Mary pass as time expired on Saturday.

Quarterback Chase Brice fired a 53-yard pass that was tipped into wideout Christan Horn’s hands.

Brice drove Appalachian State down the field before throwing incomplete on fourth-and-goal from the 2-yard line with 1:13 left in the game. Troy had a 99.9% chance to win the game at this point, according to ESPN.

Appalachian State tackled Gunnar Watson on first down for a safety to get within 28-26 and took over at their own 47-yard line with 15 seconds left following the kickoff. Brice’s game-winning throw came on fourth-and-10.

The win came in the rivalry game that saw College GameDay on campus after the Mountaineers defeated No. 6 Texas A&M on the road in College Station the week prior.

The Mountaineers also had a thrilling Week 1 matchup against North Carolina that featured 124 points in a loss but kept App State in the national spotlight as a potential national darling for three weeks running.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
