Coyotes goalie Smith wants ownership resolution before new contract

The Phoenix Coyotes would like
to sign goalie Mike Smith to a contract extension, and
with good reason.
Smith, who signed a two-year deal prior to the 2011-12
season, was nothing short of a revelation for a team
seeking a replacement for the departed Ilya Bryzgalov.
Because Smith was not simply a replacement; he was an
upgrade.
The 30-year-old had a career year in the desert, posting a
38-18-10 record with a 2.21 GAA and .930 save percentage.
He led the team to the Western Conference Final, and
established himself as one of the top netminders in the
game.
So yeah, it’d be a good idea to look into extending his
contract, rather than risk losing him after next season.
