Coyotes trade D Conor Timmins in exchange for Maple Leafs C Curtis Douglas

The Arizona Coyotes have traded defenseman Conor Timmins to the Toronto Maple Leafs for center Curtis Douglas, the team announced on Wednesday.

Morgan added that the Coyotes wanted to originally waive Timmins in order to get the 24-year-old more time on the ice and work on certain situations in games with the AHL affiliate Tucson Roadrunners.

However, Arizona felt Timmins would be claimed by another NHL team and decided to deal for Douglas to get something in return rather than nothing.

Timmins was acquired by the Coyotes in the trade that saw goaltender Darcy Kuemper get dealt to the Colorado Avalanche in 2021.

Arizona also received a 2022 first-round draft pick and a conditional 2024 third-round draft pick.

Unfortunately for Timmins, injuries have limited him to only make eight appearances for the Coyotes over the last two seasons and play in just 41 total games in his four-year NHL career.

Douglas, a 22-year-old who stands at 6-foot-9, has yet to make his NHL debut after being drafted in the fourth round (No. 106 overall) by the Dallas Stars in the 2018 draft.

In 67 games for the Maple Leafs’ AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies, Douglas registered 34 points on 13 goals and 21 assists to go along with 86 penalty minutes.

The Coyotes face off against the Hurricanes in Carolina at 5 p.m. on ESPN 620 AM / 98.7 FM HD-2, ArizonaSports.com and the Arizona Sports app.
