Kyler Murray calls out Patrick Peterson for condemning comments made on podcast

Ever since Patrick Peterson finally got his “revenge” on the Arizona Cardinals this season — now 1-1 against his old team — the Minnesota Viking hasn’t been shy in telling it how he sees when it comes to the franchise in the desert.

On Kyler Murray’s sideline back-and-forths with head coach Kliff Kingsbury and wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins that were caught on camera over recent weeks, Peterson went in ripping his former QB.

“Kyler Murray don’t care about nobody but Kyler Murray,” Peterson said on the “All Things Covered” podcast Wednesday. “That’s just the matter of the fact.”

Murray responded on Twitter, saying Peterson’s words were untrue and taking issue with his former teammate publicizing his criticism instead of calling him personally.

“(Peterson) you got my number, if you really felt like this as a “big bro” or “mentor” you supposed to call me and tell me, not drag me so your podcast can grow,” Murray wrote.

Hopkins tweeted a message after Peterson’s comments, although his post was more vague without any direct mentions to the cornerback.

The topic of Murray saying the Cardinals offense was “schematically (expletive)” after the team’s loss on Sunday was also brought up on the podcast, albeit out of context.

“This is the same guy that you all put in his contract you got to study for four hours a week,” Peterson said. “But the system messed up? They’re requiring you to study for 24 hours, but the system messed up?”

“If you look at it since Kyler’s been there, all the stats are all the same, records are all the same, but it’s consistent” the CB added.

Unfortunately for Peterson’s narrative (and other national outlets for that matter), the Murray quote on the offense had to do with a single fourth-and-inches play, one that ended with Murray throwing an INT, not the entire unit as a whole.

In terms of Murray’s stat lines over the past four years, 2022 marks his first real year of regression. Before this season, the QB had improved his accuracy year over year, highlighted by a 69.2% mark last season.

Peterson has made sure to let his vendetta against the Cardinals be known this season, with Murray among the most targeted.

In Minnesota’s win over Arizona in Week 8, Peterson mocked the QB following an interception by acting like he was gaming during the team’s end zone celebration.

He didn’t stop there, either, voicing his displeasure with how GM Steve Keim handled his final year with the team and how the CB found fan mail calling him washed up.

And it wouldn’t be a complete Peterson rant without getting a shot in on Keim.

“(Kingsbury) will be (the scapegoat for the team’s downfall),” Peterson said. “And the crazy thing about it is the guy who hired him will still have a job.”

If we really want to get down to the nitty gritty, Peterson very much thought about his own self during his Cardinals’ tenure, whether that’s requesting a trade from the franchise in 2018 before eventually going back on it, not attending voluntary OTAs during Kingsbury’s first season as head coach or getting handed a six-game suspension for PED use a month later.

Interesting that Peterson has magnified his Cardinals chatter since picking up a W against his former team. That wasn’t the case last season after taking the L against Arizona in Week 2.
