The Phoenix Mercury have signed 6-foot guard Amy Atwell to a seven-day contract.

She returns to the team after practicing with the Mercury during the team’s 2024 training camp in late April.

Atwell recently won bronze with the Australian Opals at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She made that roster as a replacement for Mercury forward Rebecca Allen, who was set to compete for Australia before aggravating a hamstring injury during practice.

Atwell was selected 27th overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2022 WNBA Draft out of Hawaii and appeared in four games during her rookie season.

According to WNBA rules, players can only sign three or fewer seven-day contracts with the same team in one season.

The Mercury recently signed guard Celeste Taylor to her third and final seven-day contract. Taylor had four rebounds and two assists during the Mercury’s 74-66 win against the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday night, which led to Phoenix clinching a spot in the playoffs.

Atwell joins as the Mercury prepare to face the Washington Mystics at Footprint Center on Thursday night.

Allen (hamstring) and guard Charisma Osborne (lower leg) are out for Thursday’s game.
