Phoenix Suns guard Eric Bledsoe will miss a significant amount of time after suffering a left knee injury in his team’s 111-104 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night.

The Arizona Republic’s Paul Coro reports MRI results showed a torn meniscus in Bledsoe’s knee, and he is expected to miss “extended time.”

Phoenix announced Sunday evening that Bledsoe will undergo surgery Tuesday. There was no timetable given for his recovery.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported Bledsoe could be out through the mid-February All-Star break, while Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski added that the Suns have lost Bledsoe for six weeks due to the injury.

The news of Bledsoe’s injury comes with the news that the team could be mulling coach Jeff Hornacek’s future with the team.

Bledsoe’s most significant injury issues over the course of his five-plus year NBA career were also meniscus-related, but it is not the same knee.

Bledsoe missed 33 games with a partial meniscus tear in his right knee during the 2013-14 season. That was the second surgery to the right knee because of meniscus damage. With the Los Angeles Clippers, Bledsoe missed four months after injuring himself in October of 2011. The second surgery removed the meniscus rather than repaired it.

The 6’1 point guard was averaging career-bests of 20.4 points, 6.1 assists and 2.0 steals per game this season.

Without Bledsoe, the Suns will likely slide Brandon Knight to the starting point guard spot.

The Suns have started rookie Devin Booker at shooting guard in two games this season. Ronnie Price, Sonny Weems and Archie Goodwin could also see an increase in playing time following the news of Bledsoe’s injury.
