Suns sign Jordan McRae, who just set the D-League scoring record

After setting the D-League scoring record with 61 points in a game earlier this week, Delaware 87ers guard Jordan McRae officially joined the Phoenix Suns on a 10-day contract Friday, the team announced.
The move was first reported by Yahoo! Sports’ Shams Charania.
McRae, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard, is averaging 23.1 points on 45 percent shooting and 31 percent accuracy from three-point range for Delaware this season. He is also averaging 5.2 assists and 1.7 steals through 28 games for the Philadelphia 76ers’ affiliate squad.
The news comes as the Suns faced a final decision with point guard Lorenzo Brown, whose second 10-day contract came to an end Thursday. If Phoenix had intended to keep Brown, it would require signing him for the remainder of the year.
On Wednesday, Brown only played two minutes in garbage time of a 115-93 loss for a team without another true backup point guard. Swingman Sonny Weems and starting shooting guard Devin Booker initiated offense when starting combo guard Archie Goodwin was on the bench in the loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Adding McRae makes sense for a Suns team that has struggled finding enough scoring threats to remain competitive. McRae, at the least, will provide that for a team that has also struggled with turnovers and has the worst field goal defense in the league this year.
During his record-setting game Tuesday, the former Tennessee Volunteer scored 22 of his points in transition and 15 in pick-and-roll situations, according to Synergy Sports. He also went 16-of-18 from the foul stripe.
The performance broke the previous D-League record of 58 points set by both Pierre Jackson and Dar Tucker.
McRae has yet to play in a regular season NBA game but appeared in seven preseason game with the Sixers this season.
The San Antonio Spurs selected McRae with the 58th overall pick in the 2014 draft and traded him to the Sixers on draft night.
