If a few of NFL.com writers are correct, the Arizona Cardinals will be taking home some hardware this season.
In a NFL.com piece predicting NFL award winners, Adam Schein gave a nod to Patrick Peterson for Defensive Player of the Year while Charley Casserly and Gregg Rosenthal peg Bruce Arians to be the Coach of the Year.
Writes Schein:
He’s on the cusp of being elite. Peterson is a blanket on star receivers and has a great knack for making plays. I pick Peterson just ahead of Earl Thomas and Lavonte David.
A three-time Pro Bowl selection (two of which were at defensive back), Peterson has tallied 161 total tackles along with one sack and 12 interceptions. Last season he picked off just three passes, though that could be due to the fact that teams were not apt to throw his way.
As for Arians, who won the Coach of the Year award in 2012 due to his work with the Indianapolis Colts, seeing his name mentioned again after he guided the Cardinals to 10 wins last season is not much of a surprise.
Writes Casserly:
He leads the Cardinals to the playoffs in the NFC West — the toughest division in football.
From Rosenthal:
Who needs defensive stars when you turn Carson Palmer’s career around?
The Cardinals reaching the postseason would indeed be an accomplishment worthy of fanfare, and if it happens odds are it will have something to do with Palmer’s play.
At any rate, with the season set to begin in a couple weeks it is nearly time to find out how the Cardinals — and everyone else — will do.
