Tyrann Mathieu’s season has officially come to an end, as the Cardinals announced on Friday they had placed the safety on injured reserve due to a shoulder injury.
Mathieu, who returned this season from a torn ACL that ended his 2015 campaign, injured the shoulder in Arizona’s Week 8 loss to the Carolina Panthers. He missed the team’s next two games, but returned about a month later for Arizona’s game with the Atlanta Falcons.
Mathieu recorded two tackles and one sack that game, but then missed the following two games before getting back on the field last week against the Saints.
The 24-year-old’s season ends with him having notched 35 total tackles, one sack, one interception and four passes defensed. This is the third time in four seasons Mathieu has ended the campaign on IR.
In a corresponding move, the Cardinals elevated safety Trevon Hartfield from the practice squad to the active roster.
