If not for injury, there is a good chance David Johnson would have posted 16 consecutive games with at least 100 yards from scrimmage in the 2016 season.
As it is, he finished with 15 in a row — setting a new NFL record for such games to start a season and tying Barry Sanders for most consecutive in a single season.
In the Cardinals’ Week 15 loss to the New Orleans Saints, Johnson set the first record, and because of that he will be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame via the gear he wore that Sunday afternoon in Glendale.

Against the Saints, Johnson gained 53 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries, while adding another 55 yards on four catches. The “My Cause My Cleats” were worn as part of an NFL initiative to promote players’ commitments to various charities and to raise awareness for causes, which in Johnson’s case was to stop bullying.
Johnson’s quest for 16 straight games with 100 or more yards from scrimmage was cut short when he suffered a sprained MCL in the first quarter of Arizona’s Week 17 win over the Los Angeles Rams. He admitted it was disappointing to have his record-setting season cut short.
“I’m sad,” he said of not getting to 16 games. “Unfortunately, I couldn’t do that but I’m so much more proud that I had the best case scenario that I could end up having.”
