He said he wanted to stay in Phoenix, and he will.

Arizona Sports 620’s John Gambadoro is reporting, according to a source, that free agent right wing Shane Doan has agreed to a four-year deal with the Phoenix Coyotes worth $21.5 million.

The deal is contingent on the finalization of the sale of the franchise to prospective buyer Greg Jamison by September 15.

Doan, 35, is the lone remaining member of the Coyotes to move with the franchise from Winnipeg in 1996. His 1,198 games played ranks first in franchise history and he ranks third in goals, assists and points.

Doan became a free agent after helping lead the Coyotes to their first-ever division championship, two playoff series wins and their first trip to the conference finals.

The Coyotes captain spurned bigger offers from other teams including the Philadelphia Flyers, Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres, who were reportedly ready to pay Doan an average of $7.5 million per season.
