By the Numbers: Phoenix Suns fall to Washington Wizards at home

Jan 25, 2014, 4:47 AM | Updated: 4:47 am

Fresh off of a 24-point dismantling of the NBA-leading Indiana Pacers, the Phoenix Suns seemed to be finding their way without injured guard Eric Bledsoe.

Phoenix had won two straight and three of its last four without the dynamic guard, and its last three losses had been by a combined seven points.

But the Suns (24-18) fell to the Washington Wizards (21-21) 101-95 at U.S. Airways Center Friday — taking the wind out of the sails of the young Suns, at least momentarily.

Here’s a closer look at the disappointing loss by the numbers:

4:

Suns forward Channing Frye continued his hot shooting from behind the arc, connecting on four of seven 3-point attempts. Frye is shooting 41.7 percent from deep this season.

8:

The Wizards have won eight of their last 10 games on the road, and one of those losses came at the Pacers.

8:

Phoenix guard Gerald Green scored just eight points on 3-of-8 shooting after scoring 23 against Indiana and reaching double figures in three of his last four games.

14:

Former Suns center Marcin Gortat scored 14 points in his return to Phoenix, and also grabbed five rebounds and blocked two shots while playing 36 minutes.

19:

The Wizards worked their way to 19 offensive rebounds — 10 more than the Suns. Washington held the overall rebounding edge by a whopping 44-30 margin despite not a single player reaching double figures.

21:

Phoenix turned the ball over 21 times, which led to 24 Washington points. Goran Dragic and Miles Plumlee each had a team-high four turnovers, and Ish Smith was the lone Phoenix player to play without committing at least one turnover.

47.9:

The Suns shot 47.9 percent on the game, and only several late misses kept this from being Phoenix’s first time shooting 50 percent from the field and losing this season.
