Former Maryvale High School wrestling standout Henry Cejudo will have to put his mixed martial arts championship dreams on hold.
Cejudo (6-0) was scheduled to face former UFC bantamweight Damacio Page (17-9) for the Legacy FC flyweight championship in the main event of the promotion’s June 13 card in Houston. However, citing “personal reasons,” the former Arizona state high school wrestling champion has withdrawn from the highly anticipated matchup.
After capturing a gold medal during the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Cejudo became the youngest wrestler in U.S. history to earn the top prize after he defeated Japan’s Tomohrio Matsunaga at just 21 years old. Since then he has taken the MMA world by storm, with stoppage victories in his four professional bouts. While Cejudo struggled with his weight for his past few fights, he managed to come out on top with back-to-back decision victories under the Legacy FC banner.
Page will now meet Elias Garcia (4-1) in a non-title bout on the card’s co-main event. The middleweight title fight between champion William Bush (7-2) and Roger Navaez (6-0) has been promoted to the headlining position
