The Arizona Cardinals may have missed out on Andy Reid, but that does not mean their coaching search will end in disappointment.

The team, which has already interviewed defensive coordinator Ray Horton and reached out to Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Todd Haley, has an interview scheduled Saturday with Denver offensive coordinator Mike McCoy.

McCoy, ESPN NFL insider John Clayton told Arizona Sports 620's Doug and Wolf, is ready to be a head coach.

"He's the hottest of all the assistant coaches, I don't think there's any doubt about that," he said.

McCoy, 50, was a finalist for the Miami job last offseason. He has been with the Broncos for four seasons after spending the previous nine on the Carolina Panthers staff. But it's his work with the Broncos that has garnered him the most attention.

Having led offenses run by Tim Tebow and Peyton Manning -- quarterbacks who could not be more different -- to the playoffs, McCoy appears to have a knack for getting the most out of the talent he has to work with.

listen Listen: John Clayton, ESPN NFL insider
The professor gives us insight into where Cards' former head coach Whiz will end up, the latest on the Cards' search for a new head coach, and a look at the Wild Card Weekend matchups.
"First he works with Peyton Manning this year and does very well, they're the number one seed," Clayton said. "He coached Tim Tebow. Now when he coached Tim Tebow he would call a play and have no idea how it was going to be executed, not a clue. But somehow, someway the plays that he called worked, it got them to the playoffs and beat Pittsburgh.

"He not only deserves a head coaching job, but also too, I think, probably the Nobel Prize."

    Two coaching options
I actually think the Cardinals should hire this guy and give Horton a big enough raise to keep him as DC. He got enough offense out of Tim Tebow to make the playoffs! Another good option would be to promote Horton and hire a top-flight OC like Norv Turner.

    With Peyton Manning...
how much of an offensive coordinator do you need to be? I know these guys put in a lot with all the players but when you have quarterbacks like Manning, Rogers, Brady, etc. It's easy for an OC to look like a genius.

I read that he made Jake Delhomme and someother QB probowlers. He didnt do too bad with the way he taylored his offense to Tebow. But I still dont think you go and hire this guy over Horton. Horton has shown the desire to be our HC and he's dedicated and loyal to us already. He has a great football mind. Some are pessemistic cuz he's a DC but who cares. Hes a smart guy.

HC should be an offensive guy
I think the Cardinals should get this guy and give Horton a big enough raise to stay a few more years. McCoy structured his offense so that a team quarterbacked by Tim Tebow made the playoffs. He doesn't have the stubbornness that proved to be the downfall of Whisenhunt. Option B, would be to promote Horton and hire a top-flight OC like Norv Turner who's success as an OC outweighs his failures as a head-coach.

    My point stands
That guys of Manning's caliber tend to make these OC's job a lot easier and thus making them great. A lot of times, it is absolutely the other way around. If Horton surrounds himself with great offensive minds, then I'm all for it. Whisenhunt's problem was, like Reid, that he brought in his best friends to run things they were incapable of running.

Bidwill shouldn't allow Horton to hire friends.
