The Pulse: Phoenix Suns shouldn’t trade Goran Dragic unless a ‘great offer’ comes along

Feb 15, 2015, 9:03 PM | Updated: 9:27 pm

The Phoenix Suns already gave Goran Dragic away once. Most fans don’t want to see the Suns give him away again unless they receive a superstar in return.

In this weekend’s Sanderson Ford Poll Question, we asked: Should the Suns trade Goran Dragic by the Feb. 19 deadline?

A plurality (43 percent) of the nearly 400 voters said the Suns should let the point guard go “only if they get a great offer in return.”

Another 29 percent of voters said the Suns should trade Dragic even if they don’t receive top-tier talent in exchange, since the seven-year guard will be able to opt out of the final year of his contract at the end of the season.

Just 28 percent said the Suns shouldn’t consider trading Dragic at all.

The Slovenia native played for the Suns from 2008-11 before being traded to the Houston Rockets for fellow point guard Aaron Brooks. Phoenix reacquired Dragic as a free agent before the 2012 season began, signing him to a four-year, $30 million deal.

Multiple reports have suggested the Suns may be interested in once again parting ways with Dragic, as the Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers are rumored to be interested in making a deal by Thursday’s deadline.

A report by ESPN’s Marc Stein, however, said the Suns may be more inclined to part ways with point guard Isaiah Thomas, who Phoenix signed to a four-year, $27 million deal in the 2014 offseason.

Trading Dragic or Thomas would help the Suns clear up a logjam at the point guard position, which includes the team’s leading scorer, Eric Bledsoe.

Dragic is averaging 16.1 points, 4.1 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 52 games this season for the Suns.
