Coyotes top Capitals for fourth win of 2014: By the Numbers

Shane Doan led the Coyotes to a much-needed 6-5 victory Sunday night in Washington against the Capitals.
After trailing through the first period, Doan and teammate Michael Stone tied it up with twin goals in the second.
The Coyotes took the lead after another goal from Doan, and then pushed ahead by three — the Capitals would ultimately attempt a comeback, scaring Coyotes fans a bit by coming within one, but ended up suffering the loss.

The victory quenched a dry spell for Arizona — they had previously lost three consecutive games and were due for some cheer.
It was the fourth win of the season thus far for the Coyotes and the first road win.

The Coyotes were out-shot 37-30 by the Capitals, whose nine giveaways ultimately helped cost them the game.
The ‘Yotes had to manage some rapid-fire at the hands of Washington, who had 16 shots on goal in the third period alone as opposed to Arizona’s six.

Another deciding factor in the game was Washington’s substantial amount of penalty minutes. They accumulated 21 as opposed to Arizona’s 15.

Doan’s presence on the ice is always helpful to Arizona, and this time around he capitalized on Washington turnovers and scored two goals with one assist and three points.
Sam Gagner also scored his first goal with the Coyotes in the victory.

Goaltender Devan Dubnyk kept the Coyotes competitive through three periods with 31 saves on 35 shots.
His consistency throughout came especially in handy for the Coyotes in the third period, when the Capitals peppered the goal in a last-ditch effort to win.
