Does Steve Nash have too much input with Suns?

Does Steve Nash have a future in an NBA front office? We’re not sure, but he may have a pretty big presence in one right now.

In an article about the Los Angeles Lakers hiring of coach Mike Brown, Yahoo’s Adrian Wojnarowski dropped an interesting little tidbit about the Phoenix Suns point guard.

The San Antonio Spurs wouldn’t hire a coach without discussing names with Tim Duncan. Steve Nash gets immense input – probably too much – with the Phoenix Suns.

It’s no surprise that the Suns consult Nash on certain moves the team makes, but can he really have too much input?

We find it hard to believe that Nash has his hands in every player personnel decision. If he did, do you really think Amar’e Stoudemire would be in New York , Joe Johnson would be in Atlanta or the team would have spent more time searching for a backup point guard than the Fugitive looked for the one-armed man?

Nash is the face of the franchise and keeping him happy is, and has been, important. If that means Robert Sarver and the team’s front office has to ask his opinion on moves and the direction they’re heading, so be it.

Unless he’s the one who decided to sell draft picks and do everything to get under the luxury tax, no amount of input he has could be too much.

Just because the Lakers don’t understand that consulting with your superstar and former MVP on a decision that will change the course of the team doesn’t mean people should hate on the Suns for it. No matter how often they turn to Nash for his opinion.
