Josh Jackson named Suns’ 2018 Dan Majerle Hustle Award winner

Apr 8, 2018, 6:30 PM

Rookie Josh Jackson accepted the 2018 Dan Majerle Hustle Award presented Sunday to the Phoenix Suns player who over the past season showed the most hustle, grit and determination.

Jackson earned the honor that was voted upon by fans, players, coaches, team employees and Majerle, the former Phoenix guard and Ring of Honor member.

The 21-year-old fourth overall draft pick, Jackson sat out with a quad contusion on Sunday as the Suns faced the Golden State Warriors in the second-to-last outing of the 2017-18 season.

He entered with averages of 13.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game but in 20 games since the All-Star break averaged 18.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Jackson also averaged 1.6 steals since the All-Star break.

Jackson follows after center Alan Williams earned the Majerle Hustle Award last season. Prior to that, former Suns forward P.J. Tucker had won the honor four years in a row.

Majerle, a fan favorite, played for the Suns from 1998-95 and again from 2001-02 before he served as an assistant coach in Phoenix from 2008-2013. Since 2013, he has been the head coach at Grand Canyon University.
