Thanksgiving, Christmas, Mike Mayock’s NFL mock draft. All three come once a year and people spend weeks anticipating their arrival.
On Tuesday, Mayock joined Doug & Wolf on 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station and stated that the Arizona Cardinals should draft Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen should the franchise trade up on draft day. However, in his yearly mock draft, no trade would be necessary as Mayock has Arizona drafting UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen with the No. 15 overall pick.
Mayock’s assessment of Rosen both highlighted his throwing ability and mentioned decision making as an area to improve in. Simply put, Rosen has the potential to change the outcome of games week-to-week.
He’s the most ready to play quarterback in this draft. Beautiful, natural thrower. The only thing is he needs to understand when the play is over. At the end of the day, he’s a difference maker. He can wake up at 4 a.m. and go out and rip an 18-yard comeback. When he has clear feet and clear vision, nobody does it any better.
In three years with the Bruins, Rosen rewrote the record books by breaking the single-season passing yards record (3,756). During his time in Westwood, Rosen threw for 9,340 yards along with 59 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. He threw for more than 300 yards in 16 games and had 10 games with at least three passing touchdowns.
According to Mayock, Rosen will be one of five quarterbacks taken in the first round, all within the first 16 picks. The other four are Allen, Sam Darnold (USC), Baker Mayfield (Oklahoma), and Lamar Jackson (Louisville).
