The Chase Field-based college football bowl game previously known as the Cactus Bowl was rebranded as the Cheez-It Bowl after a multi-year agreement was reached, organizers announced in a press conference Monday.

The 30th edition of the annual bowl game that pairs Big 12 and Pac-12 opponents will debut as the Cheez-It Bowl on Dec. 26 at 7 p.m. in the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

“For most fans, snacks are an important part of their football-watching experience, whether they are viewing at home or throwing a game day tailgate,” said Cheez-It marketing director Jeff Delonis in a press release. “We’re very excited to further extend our relationship with college football through the Cheez-It Bowl to celebrate the state of Arizona and the athletes from the Big 12 and Pac-12.”

One of three bowl games that currently take place in Arizona, the Cactus Bowl began as the Copper Bowl in Tucson in 1989.

It was played in the Arizona Wildcats’ Arizona Stadium from 1989-1999, moved to what was then called Bank One Ballpark from 2000-2005 and then was played in ASU’s Sun Devil Stadium from 2006-2015. It moved back to the home of the D-backs in 2016.

The Cheez-It Bowl has previously been sponsored by Domino’s Pizza, Weiser Lock, Insight, Buffalo Wild Wings, TicketCity and Motel 6.

Denver-based Impression Sports & Entertainment brokered the marketing deal, and Cheez-It designed the rebranded game’s logo.

“We’re excited to add one of the most innovative and well-known snack brands into our family,” said Fiesta Bowl board of directors chairman Steve Leach. “Teaming with Cheez-It will enhance our efforts as a leader in hospitality, community impact and incredible events.”

Last year, Kansas State defeated UCLA, 35-17, in the bowl game that drew 32,859 to Chase Field.
