FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Of course the Morris twins would lead their respective teams in scoring. One doesn’t do something without the other, you know.

“Well yeah,” said Phoenix Suns head coach Jeff Hornacek, smiling. “They were guarding each other.”

Markieff Morris scored a game-high 22 points, but it was Marcus’ 18 that came in a winning effort as Phoenix Black beat Phoenix White 86-69 in front an announced crowd of 4,615 at Northern Arizona University’s Walkup Skydome.

“I thought it went pretty well,” Hornacek said. “We saw some things. Guys shot the ball pretty well. I don’t think it was as fast as I want them to go, but for training camp, it was pretty good.”

Marcus Morris hit a pair of 3-pointers as part of a 12-point second quarter in which Phoenix Black outscored Phoenix White 34-16 for a 52-33 halftime lead.

Hornacek, the acting intrasquad scrimmage GM, orchestrated a four-player halftime trade by sending Isaiah Thomas and P.J. Tucker to Phoenix White and moving Goran Dragic and T.J. Warren to Phoenix Black.

Ten points were also added to Phoenix White’s score.

“Yeah, I don’t know how that got on (the scoreboard),” Hornacek said, adding, “We just wanted to make it interesting.”

Perhaps motivated by his brother’s performance, Markieff Morris made three 3-pointers and scored 13 straight points in the third quarter — the only quarter Phoenix White won (24-19).

Markieff Morris made four of his five 3-point attempts.

“It was something I had to add to the game so I can open the floor up for the guards,” he said. “Our guards do a great job of penetrating. I’m going to get a lot of open shots, so I had to work on it.”

Added Hornacek, “When he makes those 3s, he’s going to be a tough guy to deal with for other teams.”
