The Phoenix Suns have signed undrafted free agent Tariq Owens to a one-year contract, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Keith Smith.

Owens was on the team’s summer league roster but did not play due to injury.

Owens is a 6-foot-10 forward that played his last two seasons at St. John’s and Texas Tech, the latter of which ended in an 85-77 loss to Virginia in the 2019 National Championship Game.

In 38 games his senior season, the 24-year-old averaged 8.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.42 blocks per game.

He also led the Red Raiders in shooting percentage (61.1) and offensive rebounds per game (2.1).

Owens was able to record a block in 37 of those 38 games, setting a Texas Tech single-season record of 92 blocks.

His block tally was good enough to place him sixth in the country in total blocks and 13th in blocks per game.

The forward posted 8.4 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game his junior year at St John’s.

Once again, his blocks per game average placed him amongst the nation’s best shot-blockers.

His 2.8 blocks per game led the Big East and ranked 11th in the country.
