Former Phoenix Suns head coach Alvin Gentry hired as head coach in New Orleans

Reports say Alvin Gentry has been hired as the new head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans.

Gentry spent the last year as an assistant coach under Steve Kerr with the Golden State Warriors.

From 2009-13, he was the head coach of the Phoenix Suns and led the team to the Western Conference Finals in 2009-10. The team lost in six games to the Los Angeles Lakers, who ultimately won the championship.

In his five seasons leading the Suns, Gentry posted a 158-144 record and a 16-10 playoff record.
