The 29-year-old guard was signed to a two-year, $5.8 million deal last July after playing overseas for the past three seasons. The second year of his deal was not guaranteed.
Weems was projected to play a role in the Suns rotation this season, but was never able to recover from a slow start and catch up to emerging rookie Devin Booker.
Guards Ronnie Price and Archie Goodwin have spent time playing ahead of Weems in the rotation, as well as former 10-day contract signings Jordan McRae, Orlando Johnson and Lorenzo Brown.
The Suns recently claimed guard John Jenkins off waivers.
Weems played in 36 of a possible 62 games, averaging 11.7 minutes and 2.5 points per game. He last played in the March 3 loss to the Heat for only three minutes.
